CHESS DURESS

Privacy Policy

Effective October 22, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how personal information is handled in connection with the Chess Duress game on every platform it is offered on (the “Game”) and the website at chessduress.com (the “Website”). Chess Duress is made by John Kime, an individual based in Texas, United States (“we”, “us”, “our”). We are the controller of the personal information described here. You can reach us at chessduress@protonmail.com.

1. Summary

2. The Game

Information we do not collect

The Game does not ask for, collect or send us your name, email address, contacts, location, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, photos, gameplay data or any other personal information. It does not connect to the internet and does not contain third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software.

Information stored on your device

The Game saves your level progress, stars, daily puzzle results and settings in a file on your device so you can pick up where you left off. This file stays on your device. We cannot access it, and it is deleted when you delete the Game. If you use iCloud or another backup service, the file may be included in your backup; the backup is handled by that provider under its own privacy policy, and we cannot access it.

Sharing your daily puzzle result

If you tap Share on the daily puzzle screen, the Game copies a short text summary of your result to your device’s clipboard. Nothing is sent anywhere. If you paste that text somewhere, such as into a message, the app you paste it into handles it under its own policies.

3. App stores and platforms

You get the Game through a third-party store or platform, such as the Apple App Store, Google Play, Steam or itch.io. That provider collects information about your purchase, download and use of its service under its own privacy policy, which we do not control. Some providers give developers aggregated reports, such as download counts and sales figures, and, if you have chosen in your device settings to share them with developers, crash reports and usage statistics. These reports do not identify you to us, and we use them only to understand how the Game is doing and to fix problems.

4. The Website

The Website does not use cookies, web beacons, analytics, advertising or any similar tracking technology, and it does not ask you for any information.

The Website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. When you visit, your browser necessarily sends technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request. Cloudflare processes this information to deliver the Website and protect it from abuse, and some of it is recorded in request logs that we can view. These logs are kept for a few days and then deleted automatically. We use them only to keep the Website running and secure, and never to identify or profile visitors. Cloudflare also processes this information under its own privacy policy.

5. When you email us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you choose to include, such as your device model or screenshots. We use this only to read and answer your message, fix the problem you report and keep a record of the conversation. Our email is provided by Proton AG (Proton Mail) in Switzerland. Please do not send us sensitive information we have not asked for.

6. Legal bases

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on these legal bases:

7. Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information and do not share it with anyone for advertising. We share it only:

8. International transfers

We are in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States, Switzerland and other countries. Where personal information from the EEA, UK or Switzerland is transferred to a country without an adequacy decision, the transfer is protected by safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or the provider’s certification under the applicable Data Privacy Framework.

9. How long we keep it

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

To use any of these rights, email us. Because the Game stores nothing with us, the only personal information we might hold is your emails and short-lived Website logs. We may ask for information to confirm a request really comes from you. We will respond within one month in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, or 45 days in the United States, and will tell you if we need more time where the law allows it. If we decline a request, we will explain why, and where your state’s law gives you a right to appeal, you can appeal by replying to our decision.

If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you can also complain to your local data protection authority, though we would appreciate the chance to sort things out with you first.

For residents of California and other US states with privacy laws: in the past 12 months we have not sold personal information or shared it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not process sensitive personal information. The only categories of personal information we may have collected in that time are identifiers and internet activity (from Website logs) and the contents of emails you send us, from the sources and for the purposes described above.

11. Children

The Game is rated for all ages: it has nothing in it that is unsuitable for children. It is made for a general audience rather than specifically for children, and it collects no personal information from anyone, including children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has emailed us, contact us and we will delete the message.

12. Security

We keep what we hold to a minimum and use established providers that protect it with measures such as encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, but there is very little personal information here to put at risk.

13. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Neither the Game nor the Website tracks you, so there is nothing for these browser signals to switch off. We would honor them if there were.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date above. If a future version of the Game changes what is collected, for example by adding ads, the updated policy will be posted here before that version is released, and the Game will ask for any permission or consent the law requires.
